The Staffs Bookshop is pleased to announce that we now have in stock "The Diaries of the First Lord Hatherton".

Extracts from the personal diary, between the years 1817-1862 of Edward Walhouse Littleton, afterwards the first Lord Hatherton 1791-1863.  Including family trees.  A social reformer, a pioneer of the railways and the canal network, Edward Littleton MP was elevated to the peerage, and became Lord Hatherton. His estate stretched from Bednall to the Watling Street and from Cannock Chase to Penkridge, at its peak.  His seat was at Teddesley Hall, now owned by the man who published these diaries.

Handsomely presented in superior quality brown mock-leather binding, this book is both useful as a research tool for historians and a fascinating look at private lives in the early nineteenth century.  Priced at £15, this is an ideal present for anyone interested in the history of Staffordshire.

This item can be bought in the shop, as well as online and via the telephone.  Please click on 'Books' for further ordering details.

The latest addition to Lichfield's art community is the Garrick Theatre in Castle Dyke near Frog Lane.  Last week, The Staffs Bookshop was proud to provide a few props (books, of course!) for their recent production of Resurrection, the story of the complex relationship between Samuel Johnson and his servant, Francis Barber.  Having seen the play, we can thoroughly recommend it.  The play runs until the 18th October.  Find out more by going to the  'Links' page and clicking on 'Lichfield Garrick Theatre'.
